Ontario Energy Rebates: 5 Rebates You Can STILL Get in 2018

One of our most popular blog posts so far this year was the piece we published last spring about how to maximize Ontario’s energy rebates in 2018. That post focused primarily on the GreenON program, which ended on June 19. The good news is, there are other household energy rebates you can still get in Ontario in 2018.

Below, we’ll explain how to qualify for energy rebates available in Ontario through the Save on Energy conservation programs.

We will continuously update this page should the availability of Ontario’s energy rebates change in the future.

Ontario’s Home Energy Rebates Available in 2018

Despite the end of the GreenON program, Ontario homeowners can still benefit from energy rebates through Save on Energy’s home energy and consumer programs. There are rebates available both for homes on natural gas and who use electric heating and cooling.

The available rebates include:

  • $250 rebate for a high-efficiency furnace
  • $600 rebate for an ENERGY STAR-certified central air conditioner
  • $50 rebate for a Smart Thermostat
  • $30 rebate for an ECM circulator pump (for electric boilers only)
  • Up to $40,000 rebate for a high-efficiency heat pump (for electrically-heated homes only)

More on these rebates below.

1. High-Efficiency Furnace Rebate in Ontario

For most Ontario homeowners, home heating is the single largest energy expenditure they will make. Switching to an energy-efficient furnace can reduce the cost of heating your home by up to 25% each year.

Save on Energy’s heating and cooling incentives offer a rebate of up to $250 on high-efficiency furnaces like the Lennox® SLP98V. Eligible furnaces must be equipped with a variable-speed Electronically Commuted Motor (ECM), which reduces energy costs by adjusting its speed to meet changing heat demands.

2. Energy-Efficient Air Conditioner Rebate in Ontario

The summer of 2018 has definitely pushed air conditioning to the limit. This rebate is an opportunity to upgrade to an energy-efficient model and save on cooling costs next year.

The Save on Energy air conditioner rebate offers up to $600 on the cost of an ENERGY STAR-certified central air conditioner. These models, like the Lennox® XC25, use up to 20% less energy than non-certified models.

3. Boiler Upgrade Rebate in Ontario

For homeowners who rely on hydronic heating, this rebate lessens the cost of upgrading to an ECM circulator pump by up to $30. An ECM pump increases the efficiency of the boiler by allowing the system to adapt automatically to the heat demand.

To qualify, the home must have an existing boiler equipped with variable-speed ECM.

4. Heat Pump Rebate for Electrically-Heated Homes

Most homeowners in Ontario use a natural gas heating system, but for those who don’t, the government is offering a rebate of $4,000 on high-efficiency heat pumps.

Heat pumps can provide either warm or cold air when desired. In the winter, heat pumps can work as a back-up heat source to reduce the cost of using a furnace or boiler. A high-efficiency model can save up to 50% on heating costs.

5. Smart Thermostat Rebate for Electrically-Heated Homes

Smart thermostats, like the ecobee3 and iComfort S30, enable homeowners to program their thermostat with precision and ease. Used properly, a smart thermostat can reduce energy costs by up to 15%. Save on Energy offers a rebate of $50 on smart thermostats for homes with electrical heating.

How to Qualify for Ontario’s Energy Rebates in 2018

The demise of GreenON didn’t end all energy rebates in Ontario. Homeowners can still work with a participating contractor like AtlasCare to qualify for rebates through Save On Energy.

  2. Have the work done before December 31, 2018.
  3. Ensure the contractor submits the online rebate form by February 1, 2019.
  4. Email or send by mail a proof of purchase Save on Energy Incentives by February 28, 2019
  5. Receive your rebate in the mail within 8 to 12 weeks.
