Man Performing Service on AC Unit

The summer season is fast approaching! As we head into the hottest days of the year, you’ll want to be sure your home air conditioner works efficiently. After all, even the best air conditioning units can run into issues that leave homeowners without relief from the summer heat.

At AtlasCare, we recommend booking your air conditioner for service and maintenance appointments annually, so you can be sure your equipment is safe and running smoothly. Having an air conditioner that functions properly each season can make all the difference to your family’s comfort and happiness. AtlasCare HVAC experts are here to help you with all of your air conditioning service needs and offer assistance when your A/C stops working!

Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs to Be Serviced

Your A/C is running but not cooling the house. This is the clearest sign your central air conditioner is not working at peak efficiency. One way to gauge if your A/C is running correctly is when the temperature drops at least one degree per hour in your home. If you notice the temperature stays the same or rises, try clearing leaves and debris from the area surrounding your unit and remove any covers. If you don’t see a difference in your home’s temperature, you need a service appointment!

Poor airflow in your home is a common sign that your A/C unit needs attention as there may be a blockage preventing cool air from flowing freely. A build-up of dust, debris or other particles found in your air ducts could be the cause of restricted airflow. Having your air ducts cleaned regularly is essential to preventing insufficient airflow in your home. Always be sure to clean your air filter! No matter what type of air conditioning unit you have, clogged air filters will always limit airflow. A clean filter means good airflow and clean indoor air quality!

Water leaking from your air conditioner means your unit requires a service appointment. Dripping air conditioners can limit the efficiency of your unit and even cause water damage to your home. If you notice a puddle of water, schedule an appointment right away! Having annual inspections of your air conditioner will detect the source of leaks coming for your unit.

Loud or rattling air conditioners are not only distracting to your daily routine but also a cause for concern. Most units will make small noises as they turn on and off; however, a loud or rattling noise could indicate a bigger problem. Typically rattling noises coming from the air conditioner means there is a loose part, while grinding noises may point to something more serious. Call our team of experts right away to fix the problem; it could save you on costs in the long run!

Humidity in your home means your A/C is not working correctly. Air conditioners should automatically moderate the humidity level indoors, so if you notice your home has high moisture levels, you likely need an air conditioning repair.

Your electricity bill is increasing. If you notice your hydro bill is higher than it was last year, it could indicate that your air conditioner is not working efficiently. This means your A/C is running at a higher level, trying to cool your home, and in turn, generating higher energy bills!

Your A/C unit is over ten years old. Like any part of your HVAC system, your air conditioner may lose efficiency over time, especially if it has been running without proper maintenance. As A/C units age, they become more susceptible to physical damage like rust and corrosion from water. If your unit is over ten years old, it may be time to replace it with a new model!
